【 About my work 】
I have been working with letters and symbols as motifs. Currently, I am creating many works using Chinese characters and numbers, and this is my attempt to materialize them. This is an experimental work in which the "illusion" of meaning that continues to exist in my mind is revealed in a figurative way through the expression of letters and symbols as material, and their meanings are suspended in the air.
I am interested only in making natural, self-forming absolute phenomena appear in words, letters, and symbols, which are now rapidly becoming electronic. It is also an attempt to liberate and rescue my spirit, which is being invaded by language symbols that are becoming more and more homogenized every day.
Perhaps I am secretly planning a return to my early childhood, when my mind and body unconsciously experienced wind, light, water, soil, and trees as a connection with the world in my distant memory, before words. It is a rebirth of words for me, a rebirth of the world that emerges through my words, and a journey of rebirth for me, the human being who exists here and now.
【 Postscript 】
Although I have been creating experimental works using letters and symbols as motifs since I was a student, a major turning point for me came when I met Lee Ufan as a student. Contemporary art (not modern art), which had been borrowed and somehow uncomfortable for him, became more familiar to him.
He began creating in earnest when he was about forty years old.
His works include large enlargements of material photographs of letters on cat prints and inkjet prints, as well as experimental works in which he burns letters with a burner. I am also very interested in pictographs, cave paintings, and ancient scripts in which ideas are engraved as material.
I have recently discovered that for a long time I had difficulty in reading letters due to dyslexia. Although it seems to have improved considerably, I believe that my obsession with the material representation of letters may have been caused by this.
Recently, I have been presenting installations.
I think the Great East Japan Earthquake of 2011 was the second major turning point for me.
I honestly felt the need to present something in the face of the unprecedented disaster, and an installation was a suitable style of expression. Also, I had been questioning the format of creating and presenting my work in my private space, and wondered if I could do something in a more open space. I think that is when I started doing installations. I am aware that there are norms and limits to everything, but I would like to create my work while searching for the possibilities for myself, even if only a little.
【 Heart 】
A "love motif" often seen on social networking sites.
As you know, the heart is an imitation of the shape of a "heart.
The idea that human thoughts and feelings reside in the heart is found in ancient Egyptian mythology and the Old Testament.
The mechanism of the human body is that the cerebrum does the thinking, but hormones from the brain act on the heart, causing it to become mildly excited.
There are many theories about the roots of the heart mark.
It is generally used as a "love motif," but nowadays it is used as a more light-hearted way of saying, "That's nice! I like it! but now it is also used as a more light-hearted way of saying "I love you!”.
【 Gold 】
Gold has been treated as a special substance since ancient times.
Gold, which emits intense light, has been revered as the sun itself, which benefits all living things.
It could be said to be a substance that emits infinite light and gives abundance.
It is said to have its roots in ancient Mesopotamia about 6000 BC.
Gold is also called "the underground sun " and humans have long been fascinated by its unfading, gorgeous brilliance as something of abiding value.
